Work Experience Policy
Written by Undergraduate Medical Education Manager

As one of the largest employers in the area, the Trust wishes to encourage members of the local community to consider and pursue a career in the NHS and the Trust. Relevant work experience in a health care setting is often a pre-requisite for the application process for Health and Social Care qualifications. Work experience should be a structured programme of learning, beneficial to the individual and ultimately to the Trust by facilitating local recruitment. Success of placements relies on an effective partnership between the Trust, Work Experience Co-ordinator, the Schools and Colleges and the students. No payment is involved to either party within this arrangement.

Work experience is an opportunity for local people to:
  • Find out more about the working environment
  • Have an insight into the variety of careers in the NHS and to help to inform career choices
  • Spend some time discovering if such a career is right for them

This policy does not cover placements for medical students, student nurses, student midwives and any students in professions allied to medicine as these placements are covered by formal contracts that the Trust has with Universities and the Strategic Health Authority.
