Volunteers Policy
Written by Voluntary Services Manager

Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (ASPH) recognises the important role which voluntary activity plays in complementing the work of its staff and welcomes the contribution that volunteers make and actively supports the use of volunteers in a variety of roles.

This Volunteer Policy sets the minimum standards for the way the Trust works with volunteers, drawing on a number of other identified policies throughout.

Arrangements between the Trust and the Volunteer are binding in honour only and there is no intention to create legal relationships between the Trust and the volunteer. However, the Volunteer will be expected to support a culture consistent with our core values.

The policy is for staff that work with, and provide support to, volunteers within the Trust. It is useful for organisations and individuals with whom the Trust has partnership relationships.

Volunteering is open to all, regardless of background, ethnicity, faith, gender, sexual orientation or disability. The Trust’s Single Equality Scheme guides all its dealings with volunteers. The minimum age for volunteering is 16 years and there is no upper age limit provided the volunteer is able to fulfil the duties of the role. Where there may be concerns about the volunteer’s fitness to undertake the duties of the role then consideration will be given to a referral to Occupational Health.
