The extraordinary work of over 100 staff and 19 teams have been recognised for their efforts over the past year in the Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust annual Appreciation Awards. The Awards are designed to demonstrate the Trust’s appreciation of employees and volunteers who have made a sustained and exceptional contribution to the work of the Trust in improving services for patients, and those members of staff who have completed 25 years of dedicated service.

Employee of the Year Award
Employee of the Year for 2008 is Housekeeping Supervisor, Gabriel Ganancia. Gabriel’s influence and dedicated hard work has radically improved cleaning and environmental standards within Accident & Emergency. Some months ago the scores were in the sixties and now they are up in the nineties. Following a visit from an outside agency they commented that the department was the cleanest they had seen anywhere and this team visits many hospitals country-wide.
He is meticulous when supervising his team, ensuring that they also take pride in ensuring the department is clean and standards are maintained. He understands his role in supporting the matron with infection control. The environment in A&E is difficult to clean with a constant stream of traffic, and Gabriel and his team are sensitive to the needs of the service.
Speaking at the end of the ceremony Trust Chairman Aileen McLeish said: “Staff and volunteers at Ashford and St. Peter’s frequently show extraordinary devotion to duty and patients – above and beyond what would normally be expected of staff. Our awards recognise some of those who stand out as deserving special recognition, especially for their outstanding service to patients. Congratulations to all those who have received awards, especially Gabriel Ganancia who is a worthy recipient of the Employee of the Year Award and to everyone who works at our two hospitals for their efforts over the last year.”
