We are delighted to be applying for NHS Foundation Trust status.
Becoming an NHS Foundation Trust will give us greater freedom and scope to provide even better services for our patients and the communities that we serve.
A Step Closer to Foundation Trust
Following a meeting with members of the South East Coast Strategic Health Authority Board in late February 2010, Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust is now through to the next stage of their Foundation Trust application.
This means that the Strategic Health Authority will now be supporting the Trust’s application to the Department of Health. Once approval is received from the Secretary of State for Health, applications then go to Monitor (the body responsible for the licensing of Foundation Trusts) for further scrutiny and assessment.
Trust Chief Executive Andrew Liles commented: “This is another important step towards Ashford and St Peter’s becoming a Foundation Trust, but there is no doubt there is a lot more to be done as we now work to get support from the Secretary of State for Health and then from Monitor. The benefits to our patients of becoming a well performing Foundation Trust are clear. We are ready for the challenges ahead and are already getting on with improving our patient experience, our waiting times and ensuring our patients can be confident of high quality, safe services.
