Want to make a difference to local hospital services?
Written by Communications Team

As part of its consultation campaign on becoming a Foundation Trust, Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals is looking to recruit local people as members of the Trust. Members will have a much greater say in the way the hospitals are run and can get involved as little or as much as they like.

Membership Manager Melanie Perry explains: “We really want to engage with local people to help us make this hospital Trust as good as it can be. As a member we’ll keep you updated with what’s going on, you’ll get the chance to understand more about how we run our hospitals and, if you want to, you can let us know what you think about our plans and services. Your views can help to make a real difference.

Then, if you’d like to get more involved, we’ll also be running regular meetings where you can come and talk with some of our staff – managers and medical staff – and hear more about our latest developments. All our members will be eligible to vote for Governors (or even stand for election themselves if they want). Governors will sit on a Council of Governors and they will represent your views directly to the hospital board.”

In a more innovative style of public consultation, representatives from the Trust are getting out and about in the local community, meeting people on High Streets, at summer fairs and a host of other events. Over the next few weeks, the Trust will be at the Spelthorne Have your say events at the Salvation Army Hall, Ashford on Monday 22nd June (5-7 pm), at Shepperton Village Hall on Tuesday 23rd June (8-10 pm) at in Woking town centre all day on Thursday 25th June. The Trust is also taking a stall at the Virginia Water Carnival Capers on Saturday 27th June and there’ll be lots more going on throughout the summer.

Melanie added: “Come along and talk to us and we’ll be only too happy to explain more, both about our plans to become a Foundation Trust and what it will mean to be a member. Joining up won’t cost you anything, but you can make a real difference by supporting us to continue to improve our services.”
