Pathology Handbook

The 2010/12 Handbook is available to download in PDF format.

The guidance in his handbook has been written for all users of Ashford & St. Peters Pathology services to enable clinical staff to make the best use of our Pathology services. Should you have queries with regard to any aspect of the service; staff members will be pleased to discuss these with you.

This handbook is an updated version of an earlier issue and we have tried our best to make it user friendly. The authors would be grateful for comments as well as any suggestions for the next edition.

Annual Pathology Report 2010

Introduction by Dr Andrew Laurie, Director of Pathology and Mr Steve Shiel, Pathology General Manager

I am pleased to introduce this management report which describes our continuing efforts to ensure we provide a high quality, modern and cost effective pathology service for our users at Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust and in the surrounding community.

Significant service developments / events during the last 15 months include:

Full inspection by Clinical Pathology Accreditation with retention of full accredited status for all departments
Introduction of MRSA testing for non elective hospital admissions
Roll-out of Sunquest ICE electronic ordering system for GPs
Completion of blood tube procurement project benefitting all Trusts within our Strategic Health Authority
Support of Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC) project acting as Early Adopter for the Southeast Coast SHA region.

GP Survey Newsletter

In May 2011, the Pathology department at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sent a survey to all GPs that use its services to ascertain if user requirements were being met. This newsletter outlines the responses that the pathology department received and some of the actions taken to improve the service offered to GPs and their patients. The Pathology senior management team would like to thank all those that participated and returned the questionnaires. A total of 62 surveys were returned and analysed. Areas for improvement were identified.
