Little Oaks Shared Care Oncology Unit is situated within the Paediatric Unit in the Duchess of Kent Wing at St. Peter’s Hospital. Thanks to the generous support of the local community in the decoration/refurbishment and purchasing of equipment, the Unit was formally opened in March 2004.
This brightly furnished dedicated day unit has four beds with television/telephone units by every bed and comfortable seating for parents. There is an indoor play area and the garden is currently being re-planned to provide outside play and an area for parents to relax in.
The Ashford & St. Peter’s Oncology team work closely with colleagues at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital where our patients also attend. By being able to provide treatment, information and advice here at St Peter’s, we are able to offer a strong and positive support to children and their families in the local area.
We also provide full supportive in-patient care with laboratory, imaging and certain chemotherapy administration facilities at hand on Ash ward which is adjacent to Little Oaks. There is a dedicated en suite cubicle on Ash ward for oncology patients and children who are resident on Ash ward are able to access the Little Oaks play facilities during the day.
The Children’s Home Care Nursing Team led by Sister Debbie Schiltz also liaise with the Unit providing the link between home and hospital care.
The medical team consists of Dr. Tariq Bhatti, Clinical Lead for POSCU and Dr. Tanya Bernard, Consultant Haematologist.
The nursing team is led by Deputy Sister Emma Read who can be contacted on telephone number 01932 723379 (Little Oaks direct line), or via Oak ward on 01932 722016 or by email at
