Natasha Cooper, Research Governance Officer

Natasha is the Research Governance Officer at Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and has been in this new post, since February 2010.

Natasha's role is to ensure that all research studies are feasible at our Trust. Natasha speaks with key stakeholders and departments, completes the regulatory governance checks for the studies and negotiates contracts with Industry sponsors. During her time in this new post, she has developed numerous systems and databases that enable the R&D department to efficiently track the details of our studies and our recruitment figures. Like most NHS departments there are many targets regarding time-lines which must be monitored and met. This effective data organisation and management has been due to her administrative experience, having previously worked in IT Industry based organisations. Prior to working full time in the NHS, Natasha sampled hospital life by working as a Health Care Assistant. This has given her a greater understanding of the patients needs, the ward environment and the day-to-day working of an NHS hospital.

Natasha is currently studying for a Business Leadership, Innovation and Management Foundation Degree. This degree course is proving to be extremely beneficial in developing her role and responsibilities in the Trust, while building upon existing skills and knowledge in the business industry, and providing a compliment between the two.

Marie Buckley, Rheumatology Researcher

Marie Buckley has worked for the Trust as a Rheumatology Researcher for the past 12 years. Marie mainly works in Rheumatology although she has recently branched into other specialties, such as diabetes, as our research portfolio expands. During Marie's time with the Trust she has seen many changes to the way studies are regulated, governed and conducted. Marie works closely with Dr Mike Irani and their main areas of research are directed at such rheumatologic conditions as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Lupus. During her 12 years in clinical research it has been satisfying seeing the results from the research being implemented into clinical practice.

Heidi-Anne Cordrey , Research Sister

Heidi-Anne Cordrey BSc(Hons), DMS, RN.

Heidi has worked her way from staff nurse to ward sister, in charge of a busy medical ward at St Peter's hospital. During this time she achieved her Bachelor of Science degree with honours in Health Care Practice, English National Board Higher Award and a Diploma in Management Studies in addition to practice related post-registration courses. More recently she was worked in a Management role as a Support Manager to our busy Gynaecology department. Heidi joined the Research team in 2010 on a secondment. Since joining the team, she has undergone training to meet mandatory requirements and to equip her with the skills required to manage a research study. Heidi has recently been working on a probiotic study and is currently the lead study nurse on a cardiac clinical trial, PALLAS, looking at Dronedarone for patients with AF.

In 2001 she gained further qualification in Neonatal Nursing and has been a sister on the unit since 2005.

Caroline started her research role on the unit at the end of 2009. To date Caroline has worked closely with Dr Peter Reynolds and the rest of the neonatal team on two research studies. These are studies looking at infection and gastrointestinal problems of the preterm and neonate.

Sally mainly works on our cardiac studies, but provides support for others. Sally takes charge and is responsible for four pharmaceutical studies. The Engage AF study which is looking into at a drug to replace warfarin; Stability and Solid, which are both looking at new drug for cardiac patients, the drug is an Lp-PLA2 Inhibitor; and finally Examine, a diabetic and cardiac study. Being pharmaceutical studies these are all very involved studies, requiring a lot of patient follow-up and care, and much paperwork.
