Mobile Phone and Radio Handset Policy
Written by Telecommunications Manager

A policy is required for the following reasons:
  • There is a need to clarify usage of mobiles / two way radios and emergency service radio devices on hospital sites for staff, visitors and patients

  • To take account of the latest advice issued from the Medical Devices Agency that mobile/ two way radios and emergency service radio devices, when switched on/or in use, can interfere with Medical Devices (equipment) when used in their vicinity, (MDA Bulletin DB 9702, Executive Summary and Recommendations attached)

  • The Trust needs to use such communication devices in order to conduct it's business, and to take advantage of advancing technologies

  • Need to protect patient confidentiality

  • Ensure the use of mobile phones is not abused by staff.
