15 years of partnership working celebrated with  £396k for local NHS organisation

The benefits of working in partnership have resulted in a massive £395,965 profit share for a local NHS organisation.   The money for Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust is the result of a long standing partnership with the BMI RunnymedeHospital which is co-located on the St. Peter’s Hospital campus at Chertsey, Surrey.

Nigel Wood, Executive Director at The Runnymede Hospital says: “For the past 15 years we have had a tremendous working relationship with Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals.   The partnership has benefited not just the local Trust but also both NHS and private patients.   It enables staff to move between the two hospitals and economies of scale to be made through sharing of services, such as pathology.”

The £395,965 handed over today, for the period January to September 2006, brings the total passed across to well over £2m.

Under the agreement with Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust, BMI have exclusive rights to private patient activity on the site.   In return Ashford and St. Peter’s hospitals receives rent, guaranteed annual minimum payments, a profit share and income from service level agreements for services such as pathology and pharmacy.   Clinicians can see their private patients in the Runnymede and their NHS patients in St. Peter’s without having to leave the site.   If a patient undergoes an operation in the Runnymede but unexpectedly needs intensive care they can be transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at St. Peter’s.  When Ashford and St. Peter’s are running at full capacity patients can be transferred into The Runnymede Hospital.

“We greatly appreciate The Runnymede Hospitals presence on the St. Peter’s site,” says Ashford and St. Peter’s Director of Finance Keith Mansfield.  “The arrangement benefits both organisations and improves services and facilities for NHS and private patients.   We have a number of public private sector partnerships for the provision of services at Ashford and St. Peter’s and we believe that working in partnership with other organisations is very much the way forward for the health service and to ensure that the best possible services are provided to patients.”
