Successful One Stop Job Shop for Emergency Services
Written by Communications Team

Emergency Services at Ashford and St. Peter’s have recruited (subject to references) five new nurses to the Trust following a ‘one stop job shop’ held on Friday 21st September.

A period of growth and expansion in the emergency services at Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals means that more staff arerequired at Ashford and St. Peter’s.    In 2006 the Trust transferred accident and emergency care to the St. Peter’s site and created a new Walk-in Centre for minor injuries and ailments at Ashford Hospital.   New Medical and Surgical Assessment Units were created on the St. Peter’s site at the same time.   The success of these four areas, which make up the Emergency Services Business Centre, means more jobs need to be filled.

“With past and anticipated expansion in our work load we have a number of posts that we are recruiting to;” says Emergency Services Matron, Denise Flack.  “We thought that the easiest thing for those interested in nursing jobs at Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals would be to hold a single day on which people attend, learn more about the hospitals and the roles we have available, and for qualified Staff Nurses we offered an interview on the spot.”

At the beginning of the day Denise provided an overview of the Trust and its Emergency Services.   Other speakers included the Clinical Director of A&E, Dr Heather Clark and other members of staff from both Emergency Services and Human Resources were available to speak to visitors.

The roles available at the Trust include:

·          Emergency Nurse Practitioners – working in the Walk-in Centre at Ashford

·          Clinical Practice Educator – working across all four areas training and developing staff

·          Sister/Charge Nurse for the Medical Assessment Unit at St. Peter’s

·          Staff Nurses in A&E and both Medical and Surgical Assessment Units at St. Peter’s

·          Emergency Support Technicians – a new role supporting staff in the emergency areas.

Matron Denise Flack continued: “The A&E at St. Peter’s and Walk-in Centre at Ashford see over 110,000 patients each year.  Despite our success at recruiting five nurses on Friday we still have some posts available.   If you like working in a busy environment when no two days are the same then nursing at Ashford and St. Peter’s could be just the job for you.”
