£5,000 and rising! Sponsorship money has been coming in following the “Joined-Up Walk” organised by the Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust orthopaedic department recently. The National Trust land at Said Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Arshad Khaleel: “This is certainly a step in the right direction towards achieving our goal! We had magnificent support from our staff and the public and I would like to thank all of those who contributed to the success of the Joined-Up Walk. We were particularly pleased to welcome the Mayor of Runnymede to the event, as we know he has a busy schedule. The National Trust land at So far £5,000 has come in from sponsorship of the walkers. The money will be used to buy a mobile scanner that will be used to look for blood clots following joint replacement surgery on our patients on the orthopaedic wards. The £4,000 mobile scanner can detect a blood clot before it leads to a thrombosis. Some of the funds will also be used to carry out research into when it is safe to drive after joint replacement surgery. This is a question often asked by patients and it is hoped that the research will make a significant contribution to finding the answer in some areas of joint replacement.
