The digital mammography machine appeal at the Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals Breast Unit looks set to get a welcome Christmas Box boost if sales of the 2008 “In The Pink” calendar take off!

This is the second time supporters of the unit have produced a calendar, their first edition in 2005 raised £8,000.  Their efforts have been made possible by local sponsorship and support from businesses, golf clubs and restaurants, as well as private donations.  The organisers are Jo Mucklow – Miss June - of Virginia Water and Spelthorne Councillor Isobel Napper – Miss April.

The “Alive & Kicking” calendar was shot in evening-dress style at Foxhills Golf and Country Club where staff were only too happy staff were only too happy to help out, including posing as black-tie escorts for some of the photos.

Said Jo:  “It’s a colourful calendar, with super outdoor shots. We used a wider age-range of ladies as we wanted to bring home the fact that young people can also suffer from this disease.  We do appreciate all the support we’ve had so far during the calendar’s production when so many people gave of their time and skills to make the day of photography such a lovely day for our ladies.”

Said Consultant Breast Surgeon and Specialist in Breast Reconstruction Miss Sunita Shrotria: “The computerised digital mammography machine is state-of-the-art equipment which allows better imaging lading to improved detection of abnormalities, even in younger women.  There is less radiation, less discomfort and shorter examination time with this machine.  To have the support of the ladies yet again is very encouraging, and most welcome.”
