Michaela Morris, Director of Nursing and Operations, and a practicing midwife said:

“Obviously we are disappointed with the results but I can assure women planning to have their baby at St. Peter’sthat the maternity unit is safe.   We have a very good clinical record and are supported by the excellent specialist Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which is one of the reasons why we attract to our maternity service, women from across Surrey and further afield, who it is expected may have difficulties with their birth.   

“Our own more recent survey of mothers indicates that the changes to the way we provide services and the recruitment of additional midwives has gone a long way to helping improve how we are rated by women and their partners.   Nevertheless we have more to do and will shortly be launching a new DVD to show what the maternity service is like at both our hospitals.”
