Line Dancers Donate £700 for Breast Cancer
Written by Communications Team

A line dancing group from Shepperton have donated £700 to the breast cancer services at Ashford Hospital.    The group meet on Wednesday evenings at 7.30p.m. for 8.00p.m. at Bagster House, Walton Lane, Shepperton have a monthly meeting with live music.   They have been going for 10 years and have raised money for good causes for the last eight including the children’s wards, Macmillan Cancer Relief and the Shooting Star Hospice.

Consultant Surgeon in the Breast Cancer Unit at Ashford and St. Peter’s Mr Tao Johnson said: “This is a very welcome donation which will be put to good use.”    Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals provide treatment for around 80 per cent of the catchment population for the hospitals.   Only 20 per cent of patients need to go for more specialist treatment at cancer centres such as those at Guildford and Kingston.

Bagster House Line Dancers raised the cash with activities such as Bucket Bingo, Coffee Mornings, Last One Out competitions and line dancing demonstrations.   The group were previously sponsored by Barclays Bank and are currently looking for a new sponsor.   Said organiser Iris Wood of Cumberland Road, Ashford: “We all greatly enjoy the line dancing.    It keeps us fit and if we can raise some money along the way for good causes then so much the better.”
