On Monday 12th May the Laudamus Chamber Choir and the Sir William Perkins's School Choirs and Chamber Orchestra will be performing Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, featuring ex-pupil Elizabeth Hull as Dido and Nigel Evans Thompson (Director ofLaudamus) as Aeneas.

The concert, which starts at 7.30 pm at the Chertsey based school, will donate revenue from ticket sales to the Stephanie Marks Appeal, which aims to create a state-of-the-art Diabetes Resource Centre within the grounds of St Peter’s Hospital,Chertsey. This will benefit diabetes patients of all ages by delivering medical, educational and emotional support to patients, carers and their families.

Stephanie Marks, a pupil at the school, sadly died at the age of 17 from complications with Type 1 diabetes days after completing her ‘AS levels’. Mr Peter Holloway, Director of Music at Sir William Perkins's School said, “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Laudamus Chamber Choir and their director Nigel Evans Thompson.  This gives the girls a wonderful opportunity to perform one of the masterpieces of English music and at the same time allows us to support a cause that is very close to the school’s heart”.

On the night there will be approximately 80 singers from the school, with the girls’ ages ranging from 11 to 18 years. It is also another great opportunity for the school choir to prepare for the planned ‘Choir Tour’ next February to Prague.

The Laudamus Chamber Choir comprises of 24 singers and has become one of Surrey’s most highly regarded Chamber Choirs, performing regularly throughout the UK.  Over the past 14 years the choir has built a significant repertoire of music from many periods and genres.
