New Maternity Reception officially open
Written by Communications Team

The newly refurbished area for the maternity unit at Ashford and St. Peter’s NHS Hospital is now officially open! After five months of on-going work and an investment of £80,000, the area was opened by the new Chief Nurse Caroline Becher. Over 20 people gathered for the cutting of the ribbon, with one special guest, Isaac Simmonds, son of a maternity nurse here at the Trust. The renovated area has a brighter look and feel, with a more welcoming reception, extra storage for the medical records and a larger entrance with automatic doors so patients and visitors don’t have to struggle with the door.

Said Eileen Nolan, Associate Director of Maternity Services: “We are delighted at the improvement this refurbishment will provide for both the families attending the department and for the staff, not just in terms of environment, but also privacy and dignity, and health and safety. I’d like to thank the families and the staff for their patience and tolerance whilst the work was taking place. This refurbishment is just the most recent in an ongoing work programme for maternity which began a year ago with the new 24 hour midwifery triage and the new en-suite birthing room.”

Said Caroline: “I feel privileged to be opening the new maternity reception area, especially so early on in my role as Chief Nurse.”
