The parent’s accommodation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the Abbey Wing of the Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital NHS Trust has been repainted by a team of volunteers from a local company and all in one day! This follows on from an award NICU won earlier this year from the same company, GSK.
The volunteers painted the four rooms and communal area different colours. These rooms are used for the families prior to discharge, sick babies accompanied by their parents or those with no local accommodation. There is also one room specifically for bereavement and counselling. Said Matron, Audrey Elmore: “The parent’s accommodation is five years old and was in need of a new look. The volunteers from GSK did an excellent job in brightening the rooms up with some new colours so that it now looks bright and fresh. Parents can now relax in a calming, cheerful room, and prepare to take their babies home. We are very grateful to all the volunteers who worked so hard to get the job done so quickly, so that parents were not deprived of the accommodation for more than one day. I am sure the parents who originally furbished the rooms would also be very pleased to see it looking so good.”
