Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust has been recognised across the South East Coast area, with one winner and one finalist selected out of more than 230 nominations in the South East Coast Best of Health Awards, held on Tuesday 16th June in Brighton.
Lynn Parker, Bereavement Sister in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St Peter’s Hospital, won a South East Academy Award for her work in establishing a bereavement service for families who have lost a baby. ![]() Lynn Parker
Audrey Elmore, NICU Matron, said: ‘Lynn provides support to parents whose babies are very sick and to those who are bereaved. She was instrumental in setting up our protocols and has initiated a number of important elements to the service, including our memory boxes which are given to bereaved parents to hold keepsakes of their baby. She also provides counselling and always sends an anniversary card to the family a year later.’
‘Thanks to her work, the unit is now much better equipped to deal with bereavement, helping parents take those first critical steps in their grieving process. Lynn‘s commitment to her job and the work she does are fully deserving of widespread recognition.’
![]() Sister Tracey Bradshaw and the Coronary Care Nursing Team at St Peter’s Hospital beat off stiff competition to be nominated in the Transforming Services category for their work in treating an irregular heartbeat. They narrowly missed out on winning to the West Sussex Health Macmillan Service.
Another award was picked up by Sue Harris, Senior Specialist Nurse in Wound Management at St Peter’s Hospital on Friday 12th June. Sue was a Highly Commended Winner in the Surgical and Cavity Wounds Award Category of the Wounds UK Awards held in Manchester.
