More than 230 people packed into Ashford Hospital on Thursday evening (24-09-09) for the Annual General Meeting of the Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust. Many of those attending had signed up as members in the summer to support the Trust’s application for Foundation Trust status. Commenting on his first AGM at the Trust since he became Chief Executive in January this year, Andrew Liles said: ”Most hospital AGMs I have experienced have an average attendance of around 15 people – on Thursday we had over 230. This was our first public meeting since recruiting more than 4,500 Foundation Trust members and I and the Board were delighted with the turn-out and the real interest local people clearly have in Ashford and St. Peter’s. We were also pleased to see members of staff there too. ”Apart from my ’Review of the Year’, Director of Finance and Information John Headley presented a financial review, Chief Nurse Caroline Becher gave a very inspiring talk on improving the patient experience and our Associate Medical Director and Consultant Cardiologist Dr David Fluck gave a fascinating presentation on cardiovascular services. And, because there were so many people there we had to split the meeting in two – using the Education Centre and Aspects Café &rdash; and we all had to give our presentations twice.” Guests were also able to talk to members of staff over coffee before the meeting started. Display stands in the Aspects Café were presented by: Consultant Nurse for Infection Control Linda Fairhead and her colleague Specialist Nurse Sam Beverley; Hotel Services Manager William Britton and members of his team and stroke rehabilitation Chaucer Ward PA Lynn English, Sister Usha Sagoo and Clinical Specialist in Stroke Rehabilitation Senior Physiotherapist Michelle Green. The range of questions and answers from the audience in both settings was broad. Commented Andrew: ”Feedback from those who came along was really positive – one gentleman said it was the best hospital AGM he had ever been to. My thanks to all those who attended and to everyone involved in making the evening such a success.” A copy of the annual report can be found on the Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust website at www.ashfordstpeters.nhs.uk/annual-reports. |
