Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust is one of only four NHS trusts in the South East area to improve its financial performance and Auditors’ Local Evaluation score since last year. The evaluation is carried out annually by the Audit Commission, an independent watchdog responsible for ’protecting the public purse’ by auditing public services and reviewing the quality of their financial systems. Last year (2007 / 2008) Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust was rated as ’adequately performing and only meeting minimum requirements’. Since then, the Trust has worked hard to improve their financial position and is now rated as ’performing well and consistently above minimum requirements’. Said John Headley, Director of Finance and Information: ”The Audit Commission evaluated our performance in five key areas and one we scored particularly well in is ’financial standing’, achieving a rating of ’excellent’. This is a testimony to the strong financial position the Trust has achieved following the Turnaround programme a few years ago and the hard work of all staff day-to-day to improve the way the Trust is run.” In the last financial year (2008/2009) Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust met all of its statutory financial obligations and made a surplus of £5.5 million. |
