Lucy, from BBC TV’s “The One Show” formally opened the new £800,000 Interventional Suite at St. Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey.

Trust staff, Philips Healthcare representatives and representatives from M & O Building Contractors together with BBC TV's The One Show Consumer Affair's reporter Lucy Siegle, standing to the immediate right of the "C" Arm equipment officially "opened" by Lucy when she visited Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust on Tuesday.

Trust Chairman Aileen McLeish said: “This State-of-the-Art Philips equipment puts the Trust at the forefront of Interventional Radiology procedures in United Kingdom hospitals, and allows a whole variety of specialist interventional procedures to be performed.”

The equipment – an “Angio “C” Arm” enables high quality 3D real-time images of soft tissues and bony structures to be seen on screen by the consultants who can see precisely where coils, clips and stents they are inserting are being placed via access though the patient’s arteries. Specialties using this equipment include vascular surgery, urology, orthopaedic surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology.

Lucy told the gathering of Trust staff, patient representatives and councillors from boroughs served by the Trust, including the Mayor of Woking Cllr Tina Liddington and the Mayor of Surrey Heath Cllr Craig Fennell, that she was delighted to visit St. Peter’s Hospital for the second year running.

She added: “I think this is a very, very impressive piece of equipment and must surely be beneficial for patients.”
