| Two new appointments brings fresh talent into the NHS |

The appointment of one new Non-executive Director and one Designate at Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust brings two fresh sets of business skills to the organisation as it approaches the final stages of its application for Foundation Trust status. Welcoming their appointment – which came into effect on 1st June - Trust Chairman Aileen McLeish said: “We are very pleased to have Nadeem Aziz and John Kelly on board. They will be bringing experience, energy and enthusiasm to their roles of Non-executive Director and Designate at a time when the Trust is looking forward to a positive future. They will be joining a team that is committed to ensuring the vision for the future of Ashford and St. Peter’s as we continue on our path to become a Foundation Trust.”
Nadeem began his career working in news and current affairs in BBC Television, working in both Lime Grove and Television Centre, White City. He went on to hold a number of senior financial management positions in international companies, including American Express and Sony. A Chartered Management Accountant, he has an MBA from Sheffield Business School and holds a Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma in Marketing. Married, with two sons aged 16 and 14 years, he is an avid football and cricket fan. Nadeem is a Manchester United supporter while his sons follow Arsenal. He enjoys cricket at international level, particularly watching Pakistan play. Nadeem (pictured outside St. Peter’s) replaces chartered accountant Norman Critchlow of Englefield Green who became a Non-Executive Director of the Trust in November 2005. Said Aileen: “Norman has made a significant contribution to the improvements we are seeing at Ashford and St. Peter’s. He has been active in his role as a Non-Executive Director and through his role as Chair of the Finance Committee and Chair of the Audit Committee. My colleagues and I would like to thank him for the expertise he brought to his role as a Non-Executive Director.”
A graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, John (pictured) is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. His professional career began with Unilever, moving into consultancy with Coopers and Lybrand (now PWC) and then as a Managing Partner for Ernst & Young UK practice. John has worked in a consulting capacity for a range of industries both in the UK and overseas. Most recently he has worked on behalf of the Department of Health for a consortium of North West NHS Trusts seeking to share best practice in the measurement of quality of care and patient safety His family have lived in Elmbridge for many years. Said John: “Over the years, as a family, we have used all the medical services of the Trust. It is an important part of community life in this area both now and for the future, and we need to look after it. I’m delighted to have this opportunity to be involved in such an important part of our local community and I sincerely hope that I can make a valuable contribution to the Trust at such an important time.” John is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a supporter of London Irish Rugby Club. Nadeem have been appointed for four years, until 31st May 2014, and John for three years, in line with Foundation Trust requirements. They will both work 2.5 days a month for a remuneration of £6,096 per annum. Neither men have been involved in any political activity in the last five years, and neither has held any other ministerial appointments. Their appointment has been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice. All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public. |
