“Music at the Mansion” was the idea – and three ladies from Ottershaw made it happen – raising £4, 000 for St. Peter’s Paediatric Oncology Unit! Sally Lethbridge and her two friends, Melani Hinshelwood and Anthea Hunt organised a concert in Anthea’s back garden or rather grounds! Music and entertainment was from ‘The San Remo Dixieland Jazz Band’, a Frank Sinatra tribute by Paul Holgate followed by the main band of the evening the ‘d-Beez’, all giving their services for free. Staff at the St Peter’s Paediatric Oncology Unit were delighted to receive a visit from three ladies bearing their cheque last week. Sally persuaded local businesses to donate money and then, more money was raised during the evening from a ‘Sponsor a Song’, a Pimms tent and an auction of hardback copies of two new novels written and signed by Andy McNabb, and all whilst guests picnicked on the lawn and listened to the excellent music. The money will be used to purchase another data scope machine for the oncology unit. It can be difficult to check a young child’s heart, pulse and oxygen levels, at what can be an upsetting time, and the money will mean the unit can buy another machine which can do just that, but while causing minimum stress to the young patient. The money left over after purchasing the equipment will go towards the annual Christmas party which the children’s ward holds for their patients’ siblings – these children often receive less attention when their brother or sister is in hospital. Sister Julie Eades said “We are absolutely delighted to receive this very kind donation. The three ladies all worked so hard to organize the event and raise the money, which really will make a difference to the children in hospital.” Sally wanted to take this opportunity to thank all those people who contributed so generously, not only with donations, but also with their time. It couldn’t have been achieved without them! |
