Could you be passing on winter bugs?

At this time of year many hospitals are under increased pressure due to outbreaks of norovirus, the 24 hour winter vomiting bug. We are asking the public to take the following precautions to prevent possible spread:

Always follow good hand hygience protocol when visiting patients
  • If you have had diarrhoea and vomiting within the last 48 hours please do not visit patients in hospital
  • We ask everyone to wash their hands on entering/exiting a ward
  • To help minimise the spread of infections we ask for only two visitors at a time per patient
  • Please only bring young children to visit if absolutely necessary.

Susan Osborne, Interim Chief Nurse at Ashford and St Peter’s added: “We have strong protocols in place to minimise the spread of infections within our hospitals, but at this time of year these extra controls will help us give our patients as much protection as possible against these winter bugs.”
