Clinical Examination Award from the MRCP(UK) for Trust
Written by Communications Team

The MRCP(UK), Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, recently came to Ashford Hospital and presented the Trust with an award plaque in recognition of their commitment to the MRCP(UK) Part 2 Clinical Examination (PACES) – widely considered as one of the toughest physician tests in the country.

Consultant Mike Irani and his Rheumatology team over at Ashford, including Research Coordinator Marie Buckley, the overall organiser of MRCP, and Senior House Officer Parijat Roy, plus nurses, consultants and secretaries across the Trust, were praised by the MRCP for their efforts. The MRCP have been consistently impressed with the exceptional hosting skills and organisational ability of those involved.

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been an exam host centre for MRCP, which consists of the Royal Colleges in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, for approximately eight years. It is also the southern most examination centre for Scottish Colleges in the UK. Ashford Hospital provides the availability of space and expertise, and hosts only on weekends to avoid disruption to those taking examinations.

Dr Mike Irani is 1 of the 11 external examiners and Chair of Station 5 for the MRCP, taking on the responsibility of quality control. He comments: “It is a real honour for the Trust to be recognised as a Centre of Excellence for MRCP(UK) and I am very grateful to our Chief Executive Andrew Liles; Di Lashbrook our Matron for Outpatients and volunteers from the League of Friends.” He adds: “I am very honoured to have the colleagues, local GPs and patients we have.”
