| Making Preparations for the Colder Weather |
| Written by Head of Emergency Preparedness |
At Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals, we make sure that our staff and facilities are ready for the winter weather. Our "snow plan" ensures that the hospitals can operate in whatever the season can throw at us.
However, patients and carers should also be prepared for the cold. Although Surrey has generally seen milder winters in recent years, cold snaps do happen and can disrupt your daily life. Be aware of essentials such as:
- Having enough food in the house
- Getting to work or the shops
- Checking the boiler and the heating and hot water system
- Lagging pipes to prevent freezing
- Ensuring you have warm clothes and good footwear for snowy conditions
- Contact numbers in case of an emergency
- Taking extra care on icy paths and driveways
It is best to make these arrangements now before the cold weather hits and the Met Office has created a website with links and other useful information to help the general public.
You can visit the site at:

The elderly are particularly vulnerable at this time of year so do check if neighbours or relatives are prepared or need any assistance.
