Healthwatch Surrey is being developed to give the people of Surrey a stronger voice to influence and challenge how health and social care services are provided in Surrey.
The key to its success will be its ability to talk with authority about what the people of Surrey really think about, want and need from their health and social care services.
Healthwatch Surrey will be responsible for:
- enabling people to share their views and concerns
- helping to build a picture of where services are doing well and where they can be improved
- providing authoritative, evidence-based feedback to organisations responsible for commissioning or delivering local health and social care services
- working with Clinical Commissioning Groups to help make sure that services really are designed to meet local people’s needs
- ensuring that the views and experiences of patients, carers and other service users are taken into account when local needs assessments and strategies are prepared.
- providing people with information about what to do when things go wrong
- alerting Healthwatch England to concerns about specific care providers
- providing, or signposting people to, information about local health and care services and how to access them.
The organisations behind Healthwatch Surrey (Surrey County Council and The Surrey LINk) are currently working to make sure it will be able to consistently get views that represent all communities in Surrey when it launches on 1st April 2013.
