Introducing the Rowley Bristow Unit
Written by Orthopaedics

The Trauma and Orthopaedic Business Unit is part of the Surgical Business Centre, the unit is lead by one of the Orthopaedic Consultants who is known as the Clinical Director, currently Mr David Elliott.

The unit offers a comprehensive range of services for patients with bone and soft tissues conditions, providing joint replacements, including revisions, hip, knee, shoulder, foot, ankle and spinal surgery.

The unit also cover acute trauma for the North East Surrey area and a regional specialist in application of Ilizarov frames for trauma and bone non- unions.

  • For more information about the Ilizarov service, please visit our Limb Reconstruction webpages

Our Facilities at the Trust

The Unit works on both sites, Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals, offering a dedicated ring fenced MRSA free environment on Dickens Ward at Ashford where planned elective surgery takes place.

At St. Peters there is the Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Unit, which has its own dedicated services; orthopaedic outpatient clinics, pre-admission clinics, fracture clinics ,x-ray, plaster room, and admission office.

St. Peters in-patients are mainly trauma patients but also admit elective patients who have complex medical needs, these are nursed on Swan Ward (01932 723220 / 01932 723221).

At Ashford there is the Tennyson Unit, which combines therapies and orthopaedic services in one location (including fracture clinics, plaster room, orthopaedic pre-assessment, clinical podiatry and the joint school). Most of our elective surgery is offered from Ashford and there a few outpatient clinics provided from within the outpatient department.

The unit also has a visiting consultant from St. George’s for orthopaedic services for children (paediatric).
